The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) is abuzz with pride and celebration as the autumn graduation ceremonies continue to mark the academic achievements of its students. Among those who walked the stage on 7 April 2025 was Mr Monde Mhlakaza, the current Student Representative Council (SRC) Treasurer General for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Mr Mhlakaza graduated with a Diploma in Information Technology (IT), a proud moment not only for him but also for his family, peers, and the broader student body he serves. As SRC Treasurer General, his responsibilities have extended beyond numbers. He has been a pillar of support, providing financial assistance and advocating for students facing economic challenges.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, Mr Mhlakaza expressed his excitement and gratitude for reaching this milestone. “It’s a prestigious event, after all. Seeing parents happy also makes me happy,” he said with a beaming smile.
Currently enrolled for his Advanced Diploma in IT, Mr Mhlakaza remains committed to his academic journey and student activism. He shared that his future involves continuing his studies and maintaining his advocacy for student rights and welfare.
In a message of encouragement to fellow students, he left a powerful parting shot: “It is possible, black child.”
The university community continues to celebrate not only the academic success of its graduates but also their resilience, leadership, and drive to uplift others. Mr Mhlakaza is a shining example of what dedication and passion can achieve.
