Research interest and focus area

Mpho is a biotechnology researcher with a strong focus on biocatalysis for second‑generation biofuels and renewable energy innovation. Her work integrates principles from enzyme engineering, nanotechnology, microbiology, and bioremediation to develop sustainable solutions for energy and environmental challenges. She holds a master’s degree in biotechnology, where her research centred on the immobilisation of lipase enzymes on magnetic nanoparticles, aiming to enhance catalytic efficiency, reusability, and stability for industrial bioprocesses. Driven by a commitment to environmental stewardship, Mpho is particularly passionate about designing biotechnological processes that advance the circular bioeconomy, reduce waste, and mitigate environmental pollution.

Innovation & Applied Projects

Renewable energy and climate change mitigation strategies. She is a co-inventor in a project that looked at enzyme immobilisation for biodiesel production.
