The Department of Tourism and Integrated Communication’s Eco-Tourism Unit at Vaal University of Technology (VUT) recently held a tree planting awareness campaign at Meyerton High School. This served as a pivotal component of their broader green campus initiative, aiming to foster a collective appreciation for tree planting’s importance and the benefits of nurturing a clean, green environment within educational institutions and surrounding communities.
The participation of Ecotourism students alongside their lecturers formed the cornerstone of the tree planting team during this impactful event. Commencing with an insightful lecture that emphasised the significance of tree planting, the program then transitioned to engaging Meyerton students. They were organised into smaller groups and paired with VUT students to spearhead the tree planting activities, fostering a collaborative approach to the cause.
The response from the Meyerton High School community was overwhelmingly positive, resonating with both staff members and students alike. Ms. Lucia Moabi, the esteemed principal of Meyerton High School, expressed profound gratitude towards the VUT team for their exceptional initiative and dedication.
Notably, the trees that took root at the school were generously donated by Willow Feather Farm, further highlighting the collaborative spirit and support earned for this impactful campaign.
