- Admission requirements
The minimum admission requirements for the IT Diploma are listed below (1.1). for leaners not qualifying Foundation IT is a 4 year course where qualifying entrants first complete a year IT foundation and if qualifying are allowed into the 3 year IT Diploma stream.

1.2 Foundation IT is a 4 year course running on campus. The first year is a preparatory year where students will attend modules such as Fundamentals of Programming, MS Office, Internet and E-mail, Maths, Life and English Comprehension Skills. This is to prepare the learner to enter the Information Technology Diploma (main stream a 3 year course). A 60% pass rate for all modules are required as minimum entrance level to the IT diploma.

What does the IT specialist do?
The person will find himself/herself in any of a wide variety of computerised environments. Responsibilities may include the maintenance of systems in use, systems analysis and design and/or programming of new systems, network administration, database administration and user support. The computer specialist communicates with management and the different users of the systems, which make the position an important link in the global set-up of the organisation. Management of IT functions is a possible position in the career development of the keen IT specialist.
Career opportunities
Computerisation of most facets of modern society creates a multitude of possibilities. In-service training includes the development of prototypes or systems and/or the supervised support of existing systems. The typical entry level is that of programmer with a quick advance to the level of senior programmer. Further promotions are to the level of Systems Analyst, Network Administrator or Database Administrator.
Career status
IT specialists can acquire membership of the Computer Society of South Africa.
Major expenses
Registration fee, Hostel (accommodation) fees, Tuition fees, Books, Pocket money, Travelling expenses. Access to a personal computer with relevant software is compulsory and will have a major impact on the success of the studies.
Bursaries and loans
Several bursaries and loans are available. Bursaries are awarded for academic, sporting and cultural achievements, as well as according to individual needs. The closing date for bursaries and loans is 30 September every year.
Registration and accommodation
Prospective students are advised to apply early in the year preceding registration for admission to the course and/or hostel accommodation. Arrangements can be made to visit the campus in this regard. The closing date is 31 October every year.
