STUDENTS SHINE BRIGHT AT THE VUT 2016 RESIDENCE AWARDS CEREMONY

Living and Learning, the newly introduced department at VUT Residence, in collaboration with all faculties, through their Academic excellence recognition system, recognized those who excelled academically at the first ever Academic awards.
All smiles and happiness filled the faces of the 40 hardworking, dedicated students as well as the 20 committed Residence mentors as they received their well-earned awards at the glamourous and glittering ceremony held at Emerald Resort in Vanderbijlpark.
Phasha Ramaesela Portia, Manager at Living and Learning, praised the students for their dedication in their studies against all odds. She thanked the mentors for dedicating their time and energy in delivering efficient services to the VUT community.
“We are paying respect, honouring, acknowledging and giving thanks to the stalwarts of Vaal University of Technology. What you have done embodies passion, dedication and perseverance that will surely set an excellent model for other students. Living and Learning and the University will never forget the marvellous job you have done during 2016, in the midst of difficulties and uprisings.
Thank you so much for your time and contributions to the Residence community in transforming it into what it is today. There would be no “Living and Learning” without you. You have been loyal and consistent to your academic objectives and were at all times guided by the conviction that the inner reward is greater than any other compensation, academic commitment, hard work and service to the mentees. KEEP IT UP GUYS.”
In his closing speech, Residence Acting Director, Mr Jerry Molutsi, thanked everybody and harped on the importance of team work. He extended his gratitude to Mrs Nox Mafu who kept the students motivated, Mr Pakiso Tjotjo, the best achievers and all the mentors.
He further stated, that the students epitomized what hard work really means, that they were at all times guided by what they initially came to VUT for, which is, academic excellence. “You have made us proud”, he said.
One of the recipients of the awards is Aphane Khomotso who has reaped the benefits of her hard work in a challenging year. She thanked Living and Learning for recognizing them in style in front of their peers. “This will ignite us to work even harder”, she said.
