By Phetogo Mabuza 01 September 2022
In August 2022, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) was honoured to host Study Trust, an organization that provides bursaries and psycho-support sessions for VUT and NWU Vaal campus registered students.
Ms Nomsa Xaba, Manager: Recruitment and Bursary Assistance Department; oversees the administration of scholarships for undergraduate to postgraduate students from various companies, nationwide and internationally. Large corporations give funds to the Study Trust for them to disperse to students in the form bursaries. Some corporations bring funds and students together, while others give funds, and Study Trust oversees the recruitment of suitable candidates who meet the criteria set by the sponsor.
Most of these bursaries are full cost – covering books, meals, living allowance and housing. As part of the bursary, Study Trust provides psycho-social support, which includes in-person visits to students. The support takes place at the premises of an institution that the recipients are attached to, to check on their general well-being and academic challenges, as well as devise solutions where interventions are required.
Bursary opportunities are advertised on www.studytrust.org.za, LinkedIn, and all social media platforms.
