On 24 July, the Vaal University of University (VUT) Heads of Department (HODs) were addressed by Professor Tshilidzi Marwala: Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg at a talk titled: ‘Implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the renewal of our PQM and re-imagining the UoT’.
The aim of the address was to clarify what the Fourth Industrial Revolution is and what it means for universities; to understand its impact and encourage the reinvention of the existing academic plan.
With many countries, like China, already publishing accepted papers while Africa is lagging behind, he said: “We cannot be spectators during this time. Artificial Intelligence is telling us where technology is going and provides opportunities to create alternative ways to reach out to students and how to produce students who will be able to survive in this era”
