The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) places a premium on student comfort at all residences and prioritises a productive learning environment, whether on campus or off-campus. As the university prepares to welcome students for the 2023 academic year, more 120 beds were handed over to the University Residence – the beds were manufactured by the Engineering Manufacturing Unit at the Technology Station for Materials Processing Technologies (TSMPT) in the Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park. Mr. Robert Malatsi, the manager at the VUT Science Park Technology Station handed over the beds to Mr. Blessing Khumalo who is the Residence Supervisor.
According to Mr Malatsi, the successful project was carried out in six months using in-house expertise and cutting-edge technology ensuring quality, robust and comfortable beds in a short and simplified manufacturing process. The project has saved the University an estimate of R120 000 in total. During the handover, Mr Malatsi said that as the Technology Station at VUT, they remain committed to responding to the University’s challenges using in house wide range of innovative technologies and expertise. He further encouraged the rest of the University to take advantage of all the technology at the VUT Science and Technology Park.
The residence staff admitted that this project has been helpful as some of the beds were not in great conditions.
