On Monday, 16 May 2022, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT)’s main campus in Vanderbijlpark was abuzz with excitement, as the institution launched its winter graduation season. The graduation ceremonies will run until Friday 20 May 2022.
Following two years of virtual ceremonies due to the Covid19 pandemic, yesterday the institution held a mask-to-mask graduation ceremony and students were allowed to walk the stage.
The mask-to-mask was not the only moment of significance at VUT.
In February, Prof Dan Kgwadi assumed duties as the new Vice-Chancellor and Principal to mark the end of administration. A new Council was also appointed towards the end of 2021 in order to stabilise management and governance and institution.
In his message to the class of 2021, Prof Kgwadi commended VUT students for having worked hard and persevered through what can be considered some of the most challenging times/years we have faced as a nation and the world at large. “Well done, students, on beating the odds and making it thus far. We are proud of you, esteemed members of the #MaVuti alumni family. Go out there and be VUT brand ambassadors.”
Addressing graduates and their families, Professor Maggi Linington, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Student Support Services, thanked the parents for celebrating this day with VUT and its graduates. She wished graduates a life full of joy and success.
Bachelor of Nursing Graduates – 1st Cohort
Another significant moment for VUT in 2022 was the graduation of the first cohort of Bachelor of Nursing students. Reading from the Nurses Pledge during a short sombre ceremony, the graduates pledged to commit to the work they intend to do in serving the community.
