Dear VUT Student,
We are happy to announce that the SRC’s process of granting functional rights to student structures for 2026 is currently underway.
Student structures intending to apply for functional rights may visit the following link:

- Student Life & Governance receives all applications.
- Applications logged and recorded.

Vetting & Processing
- Review compliance
- Vet documentation
- Process applications

SRC Decision-Making
- Student Representative Council reviews recommendations.
- Final decision made on each application.

Preliminary Communication
- Preliminary list published.
- All structures formally informed of outcomes.

Appeals Process
- Appeals window officially opens.
- Structures submit appeal documentation.

Executive Review
- Student Support Services Executive Director reviews all appeals.
- Final appeal decisions made and communicated.

Final Publication
- Final approved list published.
- Recognition status confirmed
Signature Requirements
- Political Structures
- Minimum of 150 signatures from registered students
- Confirmation letter from the mother body required
- Other Student Structures
- Minimum of 100 signatures from registered students
Required Documentation
Applicants must submit:
- A detailed Plan of Action
- Proof of registration for all executive members
- A copy of the organisation’s Constitution
- Written motivation explaining:
- Why no existing recognized organization can fulfil the same objectives
Non-Eligible Applications
- Religious organisations that are not student-based organisations will not be accepted.

Kindly upload the attached updated forms on the new created link. The opening date for application is 23rd February 2026 at 17h00 and closing date for applications is 27th February 2026, at 23h00.
The application forms are expected to be submitted manually either at SRC offices to Ms Simphiwe Ndumo and at Student Life and Governance Offices to Mr Tebello Theledi.
