The Council is responsible for governance and policymaking at the University, as well as for monitoring compliance therewith.

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) is proud to announce a new chapter in its governance journey with the constitution of its new University Council, in accordance with the Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997, as amended) and the VUT Institutional Statute.

This milestone follows a rigorous nomination and appointment process that culminated in the formal constitution of the Council on 27 September 2025. The newly constituted Council reflects the diversity and dynamism of the University community, comprising external members appointed by the Minister of Higher Education, Council appointees, and representatives from the Senate, Convocation and Student Representative Council (SRC). Composition of the Council: 5 x Ministerial Appointee, 6 x Council Appointtee, 2 x SRC, 2 x Senate, 1 x Academic Staff, 1 x Non Academic Staff, 1 x VC&P, 1 x DVC, 2 x Convocation

Deputy Chairperson of Council

Jackie is the Managing Director of JBM Search Partners; a woman owned and managed executive search and leadership consulting business. She has more than 30 years’ corporate work experience.

Prior to establishing JBM Search Partners, she was a Senior Consultant with a leading global executive search company, where she was the Leader of the Public Sector Practice.

Jackie spent most of her working career as an Executive in the public sector. She has held a position as a Senior Governance Advisor on a USAid donor-funded program in Southern Sudan. She was also the CEO of a regulatory authority, before that, the Deputy Director-General at the National Department of Provincial and Local Government (now called the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs).

She started her career at First National Bank as a manager in Public Sector Banking. She later moved to the Financial and Fiscal Commission as an analyst on local government finance matters.

Jackie currently serves on the Council of the Vaal University of Technology where she is the Deputy Chairman of Council and the Chairman of the Remuneration Committee having previously chaired the Human Resource Committee. She served as the Chairperson and Non-Executive Director of the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Non-Executive Director of Johannesburg Water and of Kagiso Media.

Jackie is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, where she obtained a Masters Degree in City Planning. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, an Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town, and has participated in the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
