The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence by winning the Golden Arrow Award in the Higher Education/Tertiary Institutions category at the PMR.africa Sedibeng Regional Survey Business Excellence Awards Ceremony on 30 January 2025.

Representing VUT at this prestigious event were Ms Venessa Bradbury, Senior Administrator in the VUT Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and Ms Ndumi Lufele, Director of Stakeholder Relations. The event, hosted by PMR.africa, recognised institutions, companies, and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance over the past year.

The Golden Arrow Award highlights VUT’s ongoing commitment to driving economic growth and development in the Sedibeng region, demonstrating exceptional managerial expertise, upholding strong corporate governance, and fostering innovation and brand leadership.

The event’s message was clear: behind every successful institution is a dedicated team. PMR.africa emphasised the importance of recognising every staff member’s contribution, referencing the famous NASA janitor story—an example often cited by VUT’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Khehla Ndlovu. When asked by then-President Richard Nixon what he was doing, the janitor responded: “I am sending people to the moon.”

This anecdote underscores the philosophy that every individual within an institution, regardless of their role, plays a crucial part in its success.

This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of VUT’s leadership, staff, students, and stakeholders. As PMR.africa’s editorial philosophy states, inspired by Sir Isaac Newton: “It is only by standing on the shoulders of giants that I have seen further.”

VUT’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community impact continues to position it as a leader in higher education.

Expressing her excitement about this achievement, Ms Ndumi Lufele, Director of Stakeholder Relations, shared: “What a phenomenal recognition for VUT! Winning the Golden Arrow Award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and impactful stakeholder engagement. This achievement belongs to every student, academic, and staff member who contributes to our institution’s success. Together, we are shaping the future of higher education, and this is only the beginning!”

Congratulations to the entire VUT community on this well-deserved recognition!
