The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) is proud to announce the appointment of Mrs Nthanyiseni Dhumazi CA(SA) as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). A native of Thohoyandou in Limpopo, Mrs Dhumazi brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in financial management to her new role at the university.
Mrs Dhumazi’s impressive academic journey began at Tshidimbini High School. She later pursued her tertiary education at the University of Venda (UNIVEN) and the University of South Africa (UNISA), earning her degree and honours in financial accounting. In 2012, she further enhanced her qualifications with a master’s in financial management from the University of Pretoria (UP). Her dedication to continuous learning culminated in the completion of an MBA at Henley Business School in 2022. She is a Chartered Accountant
Her professional career spans key roles at respected institutions, including the Durban University of Technology (DUT), UNIVEN, as a CFO and the Office of the Auditor-General as the Limpopo Province Business Executive. Now at VUT, Mrs Dhumazi is charged with steering the university towards financial sustainability, refining procurement processes, and ensuring that financial strategies align with VUT’s overarching institutional goals.
Reflecting on her career, Mrs Dhumazi emphasised the importance of cultivating strong relationships, which she views as a cornerstone of professional success. She shared a profound African proverb: “Munwe muthihi u a tusi mathuthu”—one finger cannot pick up anything, but a hand can—to illustrate her belief in the power of teamwork for achieving impactful results.
While acknowledging the complexities of her new position, Mrs Dhumazi is enthusiastic about the road ahead. She embraces challenges as opportunities for growth and is determined to contribute her expertise to advance VUT’s financial stability and operational efficiency.
Her passion for accounting and financial management remains unwavering. Reflecting on her early career aspirations, she remarked, “I initially thought accounting was all about numbers, but I’ve come to realise it’s much more than that. It’s about understanding the story behind numbers and using them strategically to make informed decisions.”
The VUT community extends a warm welcome to Mrs Nthanyiseni Dhumazi and looks forward to the visionary leadership and strategic acumen she will bring to the university’s financial management landscape.
