VUT Blanket Copyright Licence
VUT holds a Blanket Copyright Licence administered through the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO).
The licence permits the lawful reproduction of copyright-protected material for teaching, learning and research within the conditions of the licence.

Reporting Copyright Material
To comply with the requirements of the VUT Blanket Copyright Licence, all copyright material reproduced under the licence must be reported.
Reporting Procedure
1. Download and print the Copyright Declaration Form.
2. Complete all required sections of the form.

Fair Dealing and Copyright Compliance
The use of copyrighted material at Vaal University of Technology is governed by the principle of Fair Dealing as provided for in Section 12(1) of the South African Copyright Act.
Under the Act, libraries and archive services may make photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material provided that:
· the material is used solely for private study;
· it is used for personal research;
· it is for private use; and
· the copying complies with the provisions of the Copyright Act and VUT’s copyright licence.
Users are responsible for ensuring that their use of copyright-protected material complies with South African copyright legislation.

Electronic and Printed Distribution
Since 2011, DALRO requires institutions to report the method used to distribute copyright-protected material to rights holders.
For every item reported under the VUT Blanket Licence, it must be clearly indicated whether the material was distributed as:
Printed copies

Hand-outs
· Course packs
· Printed learning material
Electronic copies
· Institutional intranet
· Library Electronic Reserve (E-Reserve)
· CD-ROM
· Other approved electronic platforms
Important: Please ensure that Section 6 of the Copyright Declaration Form is completed accurately, indicating the correct method of dissemination.
