Excellence Recognised: VUT Gala Dinner and Awards 2025

On 10 September 2025, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), through its Centre for Academic Development (CAD) and the Human Resources Department, hosted the annual Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Emerald TsogoSun Hotel. The evening was dedicated to honouring educators whose dedication, innovation, and leadership are shaping the future of teaching and learning at VUT.

The event opened with a warm welcome by Dr Muntuwenkhosi Chili, Executive Director of the Centre for Academic Development, who reminded guests that the awards were not just a celebration of individual achievement, but a reaffirmation of VUT’s collective commitment to excellence. Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Khehla Ndlovu, delivered an inspiring message of gratitude to keynote speakers, distinguished guests, conference partners, and sponsors. He emphasised that the purpose of the evening was to celebrate those who go beyond the call of duty, shaping society through teaching excellence and educational innovation.

“The achievements we recognise tonight remind us that education is not simply the transfer of knowledge, it is a force that changes lives and strengthens society locally and globally,” he said.

The special guest speaker was Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, a former politician who is now a radio host. In his keynote address, he reflected on the power of education and the role of technology in reshaping learning. Dr Ndlozi emphasised the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in education, calling on educators to harness it responsibly.

“I firmly believe that artificial intelligence holds the key to unlocking new opportunities in education, making learning more accessible, personalised, and empowering for all. It is our responsibility to ensure knowledge knows no boundaries,” he said.

Guests were entertained by the soulful harmonies of Hem, a musical group from Sharpeville, before the evening’s highlight: the Academic Technology Integration Awards. These awards recognised educators who are pioneering the integration of technology into

teaching and learning, advancing VUT’s mission of producing graduates ready for the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
