Neo Technologies sponsorship brings hope to VUT students

Behind every student walking into a lecture hall lies a story of sacrifice, determination, and hope. Yet too often, these stories are cut short when financial hardships force students to abandon their dreams. On 1 October 2025, the University Residence Manager, Ms Faith Mocoancoeng, together with the Student Representative Council (SRC), warmly welcomed a generous sponsorship from Neo Technologies, a company that has proven to be more than just a business partner but a true ally in shaping futures.

The sponsorship came at a critical time when many students, particularly the 2 500 who had applied through the TVET NSFAS portal and were still awaiting funding, faced possible exclusion due to financial constraints. In her address, Ms Mocoancoeng expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the donation was far more than a monetary contribution; it was an investment in the future of South Africa’s youth. The R25 000 sponsorship offers renewed hope and ensures that no dream is halted by financial obstacles.

Representing Neo Technologies were Mrs Samantha Opperman (Managing Director), Mr Coenie de Beer (Sales Director), and Ms Ninke Mitchell (Marketing Manager), who highlighted the company’s longstanding commitment to education and community development. Mrs Opperman explained that their decision to assist VUT students was inspired by the determination they observed among young people striving for a better future.

“We are deeply touched by the stories of resilience from these students, and we believe education is the strongest tool to change lives and communities,” she said.

Neo Technologies has maintained a 19-year partnership with VUT, consistently supplying laptops, computers, printers, and other essential learning tools, ensuring that students have access to the resources needed for academic success.

Representing the SRC were Mr Nkosinathi Nkosi (President), Mr Tumelo Ramabolu (Secretary General), and Ms Ndzalama Baloyi (Legal Officer). They expressed sincere appreciation for Neo Technologies’ sponsorship, noting that it would make a tangible difference for students struggling with meal allowances. The student leaders emphasised that proper nutrition is vital for maintaining focus, well-being, and academic excellence.

“This support allows our fellow students to continue learning and chasing their dreams without worrying about what to eat,” they said.

The event concluded with a spirit of unity and gratitude. Neo Technologies stands as a shining example of how partnerships between universities and private organisations can open doors for future leaders. To ensure smooth distribution, the VUT Residence Manager and SRC representatives personally visited Pick n Pay South Boulevard, where they met with Ms Ilaria Rambolakis (Assistant Store Manager and Admin Clerk) to finalise logistics for the food parcels.

For the VUT community, this gesture is a reminder that when institutions and businesses join forces, they create pathways where once there were barriers, ensuring that education continues to transform lives.
