About UsÂ
The Department of Resource Mobilisation was established at the Vaal University of Technology in October 2018 to support education, research activities and projects at the University and to be a catalyst for the University’s future and legacies.Â
Mission
To develop an impactful strategy for raising third stream income for the University.
To enhance philanthropic growth of the University while satisfying donor needs
Strategic objectives of the fundraising office
- Create an enabling environment for the University to develop a long term sustainable relationship with supporters and partners.
- Promote corporate and individual social responsibility, in the context of strategic advancement partnerships, aimed at making a sustainable impact on national development priorities.
- Promote transformation within the professional fundraising sector.
- Provide an advisory and networking service to facilitate communication between corporate donors, individual donors, foundations, government agencies in South Africa and globally.
Drivers of the departmental strategic plan
This Strategic Plan (SP) which is anchored in the University’s Vision of Sustainability and is driven through the following:
- Involvement of Senior Leadership and engagement with academic community.
- Based on a distinctive VUT identity, mission and history.
- Active engagement with donors.
- Strategy is crafted for sustainability and consistency.
While the focus of our work is Resource Mobilisation, the link with Alumni Relations and Internationalisation is fundamental to ensure the active involvement of the latter in University activities, welfare and investment opportunities. Working with the Office of International Affairs is vital in attracting global partnerships which boost resources for the University.

Dr. Narissa Ramdhani
Director
Dr. Narissa Ramdhani has extensive experience in higher education, fundraising, business, international relations, diplomacy and development. She holds a number of degrees and awards from South African and US Universities, including a Ph.D in International Relations from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of Connecticut in the USA, and fellowships from Yale University, Michigan State University and the University of Connecticut. As a global citizen, she has enjoyed many career highlights, with business networks on 6 continents while serving the late President Nelson Mandela in many special projects. She served in this position for 7 years before being invited to serve on the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Other highlights include her work with many Heads of States, including the Presidents of many countries. With mentors across the globe, Dr. Ramdhani’s experience in fundraising spans 25 years resulting in her enjoying the confidence of the global donor community over a long period of time.
Ms. Grace Galeta
Administrator
Ms. Galeta has been providing administrative services to different departments at the University before joining the Department of Resource Mobilisation. As its Administrator she has played a key role in the management of the life cycle of the many grants, funding and sponsorships brought by this Department, faculties and units at the University. Aside from managing this office, Ms. Galeta effectively manages donor liaison and the crafting of all compliance documents such as the Section 18A Tax Exemption Certificates. Given Ms. Galeta’s experience, track record and professionalism, donor confidence is assured and good governance is demonstrated by the Resource Mobilisation Office.
