VUT Advanced Diploma students redefine denim at the JEANetics fashion show

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Amphitheatre was transformed into a runway of creativity and style on Friday, 24 October 2025, as Advanced Diploma in Fashion students showcased their talent at the JEANetics Fashion Show. The event celebrated innovation, sustainability, and artistic expression through garments made entirely from denim.

The show opened with a vibrant display by a group of handpicked third-year Fashion students whose designs set the tone for the afternoon. Their showcase captured the audience’s attention, highlighting the developing creativity and technical skill within the department.

Adding a musical flourish, talented artist Mandy Logan delivered a soulful performance that lifted the atmosphere and energised the crowd, setting the perfect stage for the main showcase.

The spotlight then shifted to the Advanced Diploma students’ JEANetics collection — a testament to originality and craftsmanship. Each designer presented distinctive, handcrafted pieces made from repurposed denim, blending sustainability with high fashion. Models graced the runway in inventive reinterpretations of jeans, ranging from bold statement pieces to elegantly tailored silhouettes. The ingenuity on display earned enthusiastic applause and admiration from the audience.

Toward the end of the show, VUT Fashion lecturers were invited to the stage for a moment of recognition and appreciation. Their mentorship and dedication were acknowledged as the guiding force behind the students’ success. The collaboration with Red Square added an element of excitement, as each Advanced Diploma student received a gift hamper in recognition of their creativity and effort.

In closing, Mrs Louies Pretorius, Lecturer for the Advanced Diploma in Fashion, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the event, reaffirming the department’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of designers poised to make their mark on the fashion industry.
