In a glittering celebration of talent and dedication, VUT FM held its prestigious Presenter Recognition Luncheon on 06 June 2025. The elegant Cricket Club House at Isak Steyl Stadium provided the perfect backdrop for a day dedicated to honouring the voices that bring the station to life daily.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as presenters gathered alongside the VUT FM Board of Governors and Station Management. Special guest speaker Mr Abbey Nkamodira, an entrepreneur extraordinaire and former VUT FM Station Manager, added dignity to the occasion with his presence.
As digital platforms reshape the media landscape, the luncheon served as a reminder of radio’s enduring importance. Station leadership emphasised presenters’ critical role in elevating VUT FM to new heights, challenging them to remain relevant and competitive in an era where podcasts increasingly capture audience attention.
“You guys are not just an engine and the wheels of this thing; you are this thing,” declared Mr Nkamodira in his powerful keynote address, acknowledging the presenters as the very essence of the station. His words resonated through the room as he continually urged the talented team to refine their craft.
With the wisdom of experience behind him, Nkamodira offered a guiding philosophy: “You need to go through a lower division so that you can grow and be the best.” His message was clear: success demands dedication, specialisation, and the courage to evolve.
The day’s highlight was the award presentation, recognising established talents and rising stars. The recognition was divided into two categories: twenty-nine outstanding presenters and producers, and two trailblazers.
Adding to the celebration was the proud announcement that two VUT FM presenters, Mr Mercy Makole (nominated for Best Breakfast Show Presenter) and Mr Tshidiso Moremoholo (nominated for Best Sports Show Presenter), had been shortlisted for the esteemed Community Radio Awards 2025.
For Mr Makole, the recognition carried profound significance. Visibly moved, he shared, “This makes me emotional because I have been on the radio for 10 years, and I haven’t got anything, but someone once said that when the time is right, things will come to you, and I realise that now.” His words captured the perseverance often required before recognition arrives and a journey of passion sustained through years of dedication.
The event concluded with Station Manager Mr Mxolisi Ndongeni committing to making such recognition events a regular tradition. He highlighted the dual purpose of these celebrations: not only to acknowledge hard work but also to provide presenters with meaningful credentials that could open doors to future opportunities.
For the award recipients and nominees, these accolades represent not just recognition of past achievements but stepping stones toward even brighter futures in broadcasting. For VUT FM, the event marks a renewed commitment to nurturing talent and maintaining relevance in an ever-changing media landscape.
The VUT FM 2025 Presenter Recognition Luncheon has set a new benchmark in celebrating the voices that connect the station to its community while inspiring the next generation of broadcasting talent to reach for excellence.
