From 18- 20 March 2025, the Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT’s) Centre for Academic Development (CAD) hosted a successful Writing Retreat at the Emerald Casino Resort.
This enriching event offered researchers structured support to refine their manuscripts, promoting individual progress and collaborative academic development.
Facilitated Professor Kaitano Dube the Faculty of Human Sciences Acting Research Professor, alongside expert reviewers, the retreat focused on improving academic writing, enhancing manuscript quality, and fostering research collaboration.
Over the three days, participants made significant progress on their manuscripts, with submissions expected shortly. The retreat reaffirmed VUT’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and advancing research development.
In closing, Dr Johannes Dirane, the Centre for Academic Development Manager, emphasised the value of collaborative efforts in enhancing the quality of research and the importance of consistent academic engagement. He also underscored the need for continued support for researchers to strengthen VUT’s research impact and overall academic excellence.
Prof Dube highlighted the significance of such initiatives, stating there is no writing retreat without writers; this means a great deal to him as a researcher and someone working in the research office. “It’s truly inspiring to witness this level of commitment, “he said.
